Franz Hörl (born December 4, 1956 in Zell am Ziller ) is an Austrian host and farmer , politician ( ÖVP ). Hörl has been regional chairman of the Tyrolean Economic Association since April 2016. From 2006 to 2013 he was a member of the National Council , from January 24, 2018 to June 11, 2019 he was a member again. He has been a member again since October 23, 2019.

Franz Hörl attended elementary school from 1962 to 1966 and in 1967 switched to the boarding school in the Fiecht monastery in Vomp , which he attended until 1971. He then graduated from the Hotel Management School Villa Blanka in Innsbruck from 1972 to 1975 and did his military service .

Franz Hörl has been a member of the Gerlos municipal council since 1983 and was Deputy Mayor of the municipality between 1986 and 1992. In 1992 the local council elected him mayor. In addition to his mandates, Hörl has been local party chairman of the ÖVP Gerlos since 1992 and was elected chairman of the Schwaz district office of the Austrian Economic Association in 2004. Hörl has also been chairman of the Schwaz district office of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce since 2000 .

Franz Hörl represented the ÖVP from October 30, 2006 to October 28, 2013 for the first time in the National Council. In the XXIII. Franz Hörl was accused of sexism in November 2011: When asked by Member of the National Council Gabriele Binder-Maier how many women worked in the Ministry of Agriculture, he replied: "There will be some cleaning lady".

Hörl is accused in the media of exceeding the pain and decency threshold with his "abusive tirades" and of acting too one-sidedly as a cable car lobbyist. The daily newspaper Der Standard described him as the "Pit Bull Terrier of the Tyrolean People's Party". The reason for this was an underhand attack on a recognized BOKU appraiser, who had previously rejected a gigantic cable car project for weighty reasons of nature conservation as an agent of the Federal Administrative Court .

On February 6, 2019, Franz Hörl published a video on his Facebook page that shows ski tourers chasing chamois through deep snow for no apparent reason. Research by the Austrian Alpine Club has shown: The original version of the video was not recorded this winter, but in February 2018. The clip was not filmed in Austria, but near La Molina , in the Spanish part of the Pyrenees. The Spanish ski tourers wanted to save the animals from the deep snow. During the COVID-19 pandemic in Austria , he is said to have lobbied as a representative of the cable car industry until March 12, 2020 against the end of the winter season decided on March 13, 2020.
