Vomp is a market town with 5235 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the district of Schwaz , Tyrol ( Austria ). The municipality corresponds to a cadastral municipality and is located in the judicial district of Schwaz .
geography
Geographical location
The market town of Vomp, located in the Lower Inn Valley about 30 km east of Innsbruck , has an area of 182.61 km². This makes it the second largest municipality in terms of area in the Schwaz district and the ninth largest municipality in the state of Tyrol. It extends from the Inn in the south to the north over the Karwendel Mountains with the " Karwendel Alpine Park" nature park to the German state border.
Vomp is 566 meters above sea level.

- Hinterriß and Eng in the Karwendel ; these can only be reached by road from Bavaria .
Neighboring communities
Vomp borders on the municipalities of Absam , Eben am Achensee , Gnadenwald , Pill , Scharnitz , Schwaz , Stans , Terfens and, in the north, the Bavarian municipalities of Lenggries and Mittenwald .
history
Vomp was first mentioned in a document in 930/31 AD in a transfer of ownership in favor of the Archbishopric of Salzburg as " Fonapa ". The name "Fump" is documented in 1369 . On the occasion of the 1000th anniversary in 1930, Vomp received the municipal coat of arms from the Tyrolean provincial government.
By resolution of May 20, 2008, the Tyrolean provincial government elevated the municipality of Vomp to a market municipality with effect from May 15, 2009 .

Culture and sights
Buildings
- Parish Church of St. Petrus und Paulus : The Gothic parish church , first mentioned in 1138, was built in its current form in 1480 and after a fire in 1809 it wasfurnishedin a classical style. The frescoes and altars date from 1820.

Fiecht Abbey : The Benedictine monastery in the district of Fiecht was built in its current form at the beginning of the 18th century, after the monastery moved here from its original location in Georgenberg after several fires. The baroque collegiate church was built in 1741–1750.
On the Georgenberg there is still the Gothic former monastery church of St. Georg from the years 1654 to 1660, which is today a Marian pilgrimage church with a miraculous image of Mater Dolorosa from the 15th century. Not far away is the Lindenkirche , the original pilgrimage church from the 15th century, when the monastery was still on the Georgenberg. - Sigmundslust Castle : The former hunting lodge of Archduke Sigismund the Münzreich was completed in 1473 and is a reminder of the centuries-old hunting tradition in the municipality of Vomp. It is privately owned and not open to the public.
- The natural monument Großer Ahornboden with its more than 500 year old maple trees is an impressive sight, especially in autumn when the leaves are colored.

The headquarters of the Grail Movement is located on Vomperberg, which belongs to the market town of Vomp .
Community partnerships
Vomp has had community partnerships since 1988 with the French community of Nazelles-Négron in Touraine on the Loire and since 1998 with the Bavarian community of Bad Endorf near Lake Chiemsee .
