Gallzein is a municipality with 679 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Tyrolean district of Schwaz in Austria .
The name Gallzein is probably of Rhaeto-Romanic origin ( collacino = "small hill") and was first mentioned in a document in the years 1170 to 1186/87 on the occasion of a transfer of ownership in "Galcînes" to the Upper Bavarian Augustinian canons of Beyharting . A settlement with the same name origin is Galltschein near Trins .
Geographical location
The community is located in the judicial district of Schwaz , on a terrace of the Lower Inn Valley , on the northern foothills of the Tux Alps . The populated area extends over seven hamlets, which can be reached by road from Schwaz or Buch in Tyrol .
The highest point in the municipality of Gallzein is the Gratzenjoch at 1998 m .
The Bucherbach, also called Schwadererbach by the locals, flows through the municipality of Gallzein in a deep ditch and flows into the Inn at Buch. To the east of the trench are the hamlets of Hochgallzein, Niederleiten and Schöllerberg, to the west of it are the hamlets of Kogelmoos, Hof, Wahrbühel and Gattern mit Nasen, Axdorf and Gasteig.
