Strass gained importance as a border town and customs station to the then Salzburg Zillertal and until 1504 to the Bavarian Lower Inn Valley. From the 15th to the 17th century, silver and copper were mined at the Weißen Schrofen . In 1809, Strass was the scene of heavy fighting during the War of Liberation against the Bavarian occupiers.
Redwood
In 1580, the Tyrolean Prince Archduke Ferdinand II had the Thurneck hunting lodge built for himself and his wife Philippine Welser in the Rotholz district . In 1704 the Counts von Tannenberg , who came from Schwaz , moved the court seat to Turneck and had it rebuilt in the high baroque style from 1704 to 1706. In 1809 it was completely looted.
After various uses, the Rotholz Agricultural School was established in the castle in 1870 , and it still exists today. In addition to several types of schools, there are also various research and experimental institutes for the agricultural sector.
The village of Rotholz is divided between the communities of Strass in Zillertal and Buch in Tyrol. The part to the east of the Rotholzer Bach belongs to the municipality of Strass. The numerous schools as well as the research and testing institutes are also located in this part.
