The Roman Catholic Diocese of Nuoro ( lat. : Dioecesis Nuorensis ) is an on Sardinia located diocese of the Roman Catholic Church based in Nuoro . It belongs to the ecclesiastical province of Cagliari in the ecclesiastical region of Sardinia and is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Cagliari .

history

The diocese of Ales was founded in the 12th century as the diocese of Galtelli (lat. Galtellinensis ). On July 21, 1779, it changed its name to Galtelli-Nuoro (Latin: Galtellinensis-Nuorensis ).

After the bishop finally moved his seat to Nuoro , the name of the diocese was changed accordingly on January 27, 1928.

Pope Francis united the Diocese of Nuoro on April 9, 2020 in persona episcopi with the Diocese of Lanusei . Since then, the Bishop of Nuoro, Antonio Mura , has also been Bishop of Lanusei.
