The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cagliari ( lat. : Archidioecesis Calaritanus , ital. : Arcidiocesi di Cagliari ) is an on Sardinia located diocese of the Roman Catholic Church . It is the metropolitan diocese of the ecclesiastical province of Cagliari in the church region of Sardinia , its suffragan dioceses are the dioceses Iglesias , Lanusei and Nuoro .

The seat of the archbishopric is the city of Cagliari , the episcopal church is the cathedral Santa Maria di Castello . The territory of the archbishopric includes the province of Cagliari and a small part of the province of Nuoro and is divided into 133 parishes.
The most important place of pilgrimage is the sanctuary of the Patroness of Sardinia, Our Lady of Bonaria in Cagliari.
history
The diocese of Cagliari dates back to the 4th century. In the 11th century it was raised to an archbishopric. Giuseppe Baturi has been Archbishop of Cagliari since November 16, 2019 .
Pope Paul VI was the first Pope to visit Sardinia in 1970; he was followed by John Paul II in 1985 and Benedict XVI. in September 2008.
