That in Italy situated Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ancona-Osimo ( lat. : Archidioecesis Anconitana-Auximana , ital. : Arcidiocesi di Ancona-Osimo ) is an Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Italy, based in Ancona .
The diocese of Ancona was founded in the 3rd century. On October 19, 1422, it was united with the Diocese of Numana under the name Ancona e Numana and on September 14, 1904 it was raised to the status of an archdiocese without suffragans (i.e. without being the seat of a metropolitan ).
On August 15, 1972, the archbishop was elevated to the rank of metropolitan of the dioceses Fabriano-Matelica , Jesi , Senigallia and the territorial prelature of Loreto .
The 500 km² Archdiocese was united with the Diocese of Osimo on September 30, 1986 and renamed the Archdiocese of Ancona-Osimo .
