The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Modena-Nonantola ( lat. : Archidioecesis Mutinensis-Nonantulana , ital. : Arcidiocesi di Modena-Nonantola ) is in Italy situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Modena .

history

The Archdiocese of Modena-Nonantola was established as the Diocese of Modena in the 3rd century . The diocese of Modena was subordinate to the Archdiocese of Bologna as a suffragan .

On December 15, 1820, the Diocese of Modena was incorporated into the Territorial Abbey of Nonantola . The diocese of Modena was on August 22, 1855 by Pope Pius IX. with the Apostolic Constitution Vel ab antiquis raised to the archbishopric. On September 30, 1986, the Archdiocese of Modena was renamed the Archdiocese of Modena-Nonantola by the Congregation for the Bishops with the decree Instantibus votis .
