The Archdiocese of Potenza Muro Lucano-Marsico Nuovo ( lat. : Archidioecesis Potentina-Murana-Marsicensis , ital. : Arcidiocesi di Potenza Muro Lucano-Marsico Nuovo ) is one in Italy located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Potenza .
history
The diocese of Potenza was established in the 5th century . It was subordinate to the Archdiocese of Acerenza as a suffragan . On June 27, 1818, Pope Pius VII annexed the diocese of Potenza with the Apostolic Constitution De utiliori, the territory of the dissolved diocese Marsico Nuovo .
The diocese of Potenza and Marsico Nuovo was founded on February 11, 1973 by Pope Paul VI. raised to the archbishopric with the Apostolic Constitution Cum Italicas . On August 21, 1976 Paul VI awarded the Archdiocese of Potenza and Marsico Nuovo with the Apostolic Constitution Quo aptius the status of a metropolitan diocese . The Archdiocese of Potenza and Marsico Nuovo was annexed to the diocese of Muro Lucano on September 30, 1986 by the Congregation for Bishops with the decree Instantibus votis .
