Agostino Superbo

Agostino Superbo (born February 7, 1940 in Minervino Murge , Barletta-Andria-Trani Province , Italy ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and retired Archbishop of Potenza-Muro Lucano-Marsico Nuovo .

Life

Agostino Superbo was ordained a priest on June 29, 1963 . In 1985 he became a regens of the regional seminary in Molfetta .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Sessa Aurunca on May 18, 1991 . The Archbishop of Naples , Michele Cardinal Giordano , ordained him episcopal on June 29th of the same year; Co- consecrators were Andrea Mariano Magrassi OSB , Archbishop of Bari-Bitonto , and Raffaele Calabro , Bishop of Andria . His motto Sub tuum praesidium (“Under your protection and shield”) comes from the Marian antiphon of the same name .

On November 19, 1994 Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Altamura-Gravina-Acquaviva delle Fonti and on May 15, 1996 as General Assistant of the Catholic Action in Italy. He therefore offered the Pope the renunciation of his bishopric, which John Paul II accepted on August 6, 1997. On January 9, 2001, Superbo was appointed Archbishop of Potenza-Muro Lucano-Marsico Nuovo. The solemn inauguration ( enthronement ) took place on March 25 of the same year.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on October 5, 2015.
