Raffaele Calabro (born July 10, 1940 in Minervino di Lecce , Province of Lecce , Italy ; † August 4, 2017 in Andria ) was an Italian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Andria .

Life

After studying Catholic theology and philosophy, Calabro received the sacrament of ordination on March 15, 1964 . In 1968 he entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and worked in the Apostolic Nunciature in Brazil from until 1971 , then in Australia until 1974 and from 1975 to 1980 in the Federal Republic of Germany . From 1980 he worked in the Vatican State Secretariat . On September 12, 1973 he was given by Pope Paul VI. the honorary title of chaplain to His Holiness ; Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness on September 14, 1985 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 19 November 1988 bishop of Andria and donated to him on January 6, 1989 at St. Peter's Basilica , the episcopal ordination ; Co-consecrators were the Archbishops Edward Idris Cassidy and José Tomás Sánchez . On January 29th of the same year the ceremonial inauguration and enthronement took place in the Cathedral of Andria.

On January 29, 2016, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.

He was prior of the Andria Commandery of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
