history

The diocese of Sessa Aurunca was established in the 5th century and in 966 subordinated to the Archdiocese of Capua as a suffragan .

The diocese of Sessa Aurunca was annexed on June 27, 1818 by Pope Pius VII with the Apostolic Constitution De utiliori, the territory of the dissolved diocese Carinola . On April 30, 1979, the diocese of Sessa Aurunca was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Naples as a suffragan.
