The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lecce ( lat. : Archidioecesis Lyciensis , ital. : Arcidiocesi di Lecce ) is one in Italy located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Lecce .

history

In 1057 the diocese of Lecce was established and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Benevento as a suffragan . From May 17, 1518 to June 3, 1521, under the episcopate of Antonio Acquaviva d'Aragona, the diocese of Alessano was united with the diocese of Lecce in persona episcopi .

The diocese of Lecce was on September 28, 1960 by Pope John XXIII. with the Apostolic Constitution Cum a nobis directly subordinate to the Holy See . On October 20, 1980, the diocese of Lecce was raised to an archbishopric by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Conferentia Episcopalis Apuliae .
