history

The diocese of Ugento-Santa Maria di Leuca was established in the 13th century as the diocese of Ugento . On June 28, 1818, Pope Pius VII incorporated the territory of the dissolved diocese of Alessano into the diocese of Ugento with the Apostolic Constitution De utiliori . The diocese of Ugento was renamed on August 1, 1959 in the diocese of Ugento-Santa Maria di Leuca .
