The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Trani-Barletta- Bisceglie ( lat. : Archidioecesis Tranensis-Barolensis-Vigiliensis , ital. : Arcidiocesi di Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie ) is in Italy situated Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Trani .
history
The Archdiocese of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie was established in the 3rd century as the Diocese of Trani . In the 11th century, the Diocese of Trani was elevated to an Archdiocese. The dioceses of Andria and Bisceglie were subordinated to the Archdiocese of Trani as suffragan dioceses . In 1424 the territory of the dissolved diocese of Salpi was annexed to the Archdiocese of Trani . The Archdiocese of Trani gave up parts of its territory in 1523 to rebuild the Diocese of Salpi. In 1547 the Salpi diocese was dissolved again and the territory was annexed to the Trani Archdiocese.
On June 27, 1818, the Diocese of Bisceglie was incorporated into the Archdiocese of Trani. The Archdiocese of Nazareth and the Diocese of Canne were dissolved by Pope Pius VII with the Apostolic Constitution De ulteriori on June 27, 1818 and their territory was annexed to the Archdiocese of Trani and Bisceglie. On September 22nd, 1828, the Archdiocese of Trani and Bisceglie by Pope Leo XII. renamed with the Apostolic Constitution Multis quidem in Archdiocese of Trani and Nazareth and Bisceglie . The Archdiocese of Trani and Nazareth and Bisceglie was on April 21, 1860 by Pope Pius IX. renamed with the Apostolic Constitution Imperscrutabili Dei in the Archdiocese of Trani and Barletta .
The Archdiocese of Trani and Barletta lost its metropolitan status on October 20, 1980 through the Apostolic Constitution Qui Beatissimo Petro and was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Bari as a suffragan. On September 30, 1986, the Archdiocese of Trani and Barletta was renamed the Archdiocese of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie by the Congregation for the Bishops with the decree Instantibus votis .
