Leonardo D'Ascenzo (born August 31, 1961 in Valmontone , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie .

Life

Leonardo D'Ascenzo studied at the Regional Seminary of Anagni and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . He was later awarded a doctorate theologiae . He received on July 5 in 1986 by the Bishop of Velletri and Segni , Martino Gomiero , the sacrament of Holy Orders . After D'Ascenzo initially worked as a parish priest, he later became a spiritual director at the seminary of Anagni. There he also taught theology. Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) on February 21, 2004 . In July 2015 he became rector of the Anagni seminary.

On November 4, 2017, Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie. The Bishop of Velletri-Segni, Vincenzo Apicella , donated him episcopal ordination on January 14, 2018 ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Bari-Bitonto , Francesco Cacucci , and the Bishop of Anagni-Alatri , Lorenzo Loppa . The inauguration took place on January 27, 2018.
