The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Reggio Calabria-Bova ( lat. : Archidioecesis Rheginensis-Bovensis , ital. : Arcidiocesi di Reggio Calabria-Bova ) is one in Italy located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Reggio Calabria .

history

The diocese of Reggio Calabria was established in the 1st century . In the 11th century the diocese of Reggio Calabria was elevated to an archdiocese. The dioceses Bisignano , Cassano all'Jonio , Cosenza , Crotone , Locri , Nicastro , Nicotera , Rossano , Squillace , Tauriana , Tropea and Vibona were subordinated to the Archdiocese of Reggio Calabria as suffragan dioceses . Later the dioceses Martirano , Malvito and Oppido were also subordinated to the Archdiocese of Reggio Calabria as suffragan dioceses.

On March 6, 1980, Pope John Paul II confirmed with the Apostolic Letter Cum Rheginensis Ecclesia the Apostle Paul and St. Stephen of Nicaea as patrons of the Archdiocese of Reggio Calabria. The Archdiocese of Reggio Calabria was born on 30 September 1986 by the Congregation for Bishops with the decree Instantibus votis the diocese of Bova affiliated. On January 30, 2001, the dioceses of Catanzaro-Squillace and Cosenza-Bisignano, which had previously been subordinate to the Archdiocese of Reggio Calabria-Bova as suffragan dioceses, were elevated to archbishopric by John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Maiori christifidelicem . As a result, only the dioceses Locri-Gerace, Mileto-Nicotera-Tropea and Oppido Mamertina-Palmi remained as suffragan dioceses for the Archdiocese of Reggio Calabria-Bova .
