The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chieti-Vasto ( lat. Archidioecesis Theatina-Vastensis , ital. Arcidiocesi di Chieti-Vasto ) is in Italy located Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church based in Chieti .
As early as the 6th century there was a bishopric in Chieti. On July 1, 1526, Pope Clement VII raised the diocese of Chieti to the Metropolitan Archbishopric with the Bull Super Universas and subordinated the dioceses of Penne , Atri and Lanciano as suffragan dioceses to him.
With the Apostolic Constitution Fructuosae ecclesiae of March 2nd, 1982 Pope John Paul II subordinated the Archdiocese of Chieti to the Archdiocese of Lanciano-Ortona as a suffragan. On September 30, 1986, by a decree of the Congregation for Bishops, the Archdiocese of Chieti was completely united with the Diocese of Vasto, after the two dioceses had previously been headed by a bishop in personal union.
