The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lanciano-Ortona ( lat. : Archidioecesis Lancianensis-Ortonensis , ital. : Arcidiocesi di Lanciano-Ortona ) is in Italy situated Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Lanciano .
history
The Archdiocese of Lanciano-Ortona was established on April 27, 1515 by Pope Leo X. from territory of the Diocese of Chieti as the Diocese of Lanciano and directly subordinated to the Holy See . On June 1, 1526, the diocese of Lanciano was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Chieti-Vasto as a suffragan diocese by Pope Clement VII with the Apostolic Constitution Super Universas .
The diocese of Lanciano was raised to an archbishopric on February 9, 1562 by Pope Pius IV with the Apostolic Constitution Super universas . On February 19, 1834, the territory of the Diocese of Ortona was annexed to the Archdiocese of Lanciano. The Archdiocese of Lanciano was renamed the Archdiocese of Lanciano and Ortona on November 24, 1945 . The Archdiocese of Lanciano and Ortona lost on March 2, 1982 through the Apostolic Constitution Fructuosae Ecclesiae the status of a metropolitan diocese and was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Chieti-Vasto as a suffragan. On September 30, 1986, the Archdiocese of Lanciano and Ortona was renamed the Archdiocese of Lanciano-Ortona .
