history
After Italy entered the war in June 1940, the fascist regime set up an internment camp (campo di concentramento) in Chieti . It was located in a former kindergarten in the center of the village. The inmates were either "enemy aliens" or "foreign Jews". The camp was closed on November 10, 1940.

The outstanding building here is the cathedral, which originally dates from the 13th century, but has been converted to Baroque style inside . The boulevard Corso Marrucino is also important, as is the Museo Archeologico , in which, among other things, a 2.10 m high warrior statue from pre-Roman times, the warrior of Capestrano , can be seen.
Chieti is also home to the headquarters of the University of Chieti and Pescara, the Università Gabriele D'Annunzio , with a modern university hospital .
Sports
Some games of the 2007 European Women's Basketball Championship were held in Chieti.
The local soccer club Calcio Chieti plays in the fifth-rate Serie D in the 2009/10 season . The club's home games are played in the Stadio Guido Angelini .
