Crecchio is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 2769 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Chieti , Abruzzo region .
geography
The place is located 15 kilometers from the Adriatic coast . Crecchio can be reached from the A14 motorway , Ortona exit. To the west is the Majella massif, which borders the more famous Gran Sasso and which can be reached in half an hour by car. The neighboring municipalities are Arielli , Canosa Sannita , Frisa , Ortona , Poggiofiorito and Tollo .
Administrative division

history
On September 9, 1943, Crecchio became the hostel of King Victor Emmanuel III. , Queen Elena , the son of Crown Prince Umberto and General Pietro Badoglio and their military staff. Before the Germans, fleeing from Rome, they stayed overnight in Castello Ducale and traveled on to Brindisi the next day .
