Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC is an Italian red wine from the Abruzzo region with a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC)). The wine has had this appellation since 1968. It was last updated on March 7, 2014. The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane sub-zone , where the best vines grow, has had DOCG status since 2003 .
Cultivation
This wine is made in the four provinces of L'Aquila , Teramo , Chieti and Pescara in the Abruzzo region (Italian: Abruzzo ). The vineyards are located at an altitude below 500 m slm. Only in particularly favorable south-facing locations are vineyards at a height of up to 600 m slm permitted.

generation
The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC must consist of at least 85% of the Montepulciano grape variety . A maximum of 15% other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Abruzzo region may be added - individually or together. If the wine bears the label "Riserva", it must have matured for at least two years, of which at least nine months in wooden barrels within the production area defined in the region. In addition, different values apply to the content of alcohol and dry extract (see below)
The wine can be stored for 3 to 4 years at the buyer. Top specimens can also tolerate aging for 4 to 8 years .
