Notaresco is an Italian commune with 6635 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Teramo in the Abruzzo region . The village is a member of the Comunità Montana del Vomano, Fino e Piomba .

geography

The districts (fractions) include Caporipe, Capracchia, Cordesco, Grasciano, Guardia Vomano, Pianura di Notaresco, Pianura Vomano, Saggio, Torrio, Valle Vignale and Villa Scapoli.

The neighboring municipalities are: Atri , Castellalto , Cellino Attanasio , Morro d'Oro , Mosciano Sant'Angelo and Roseto degli Abruzzi .

The municipality is located around 23 km from the provincial capital Teramo and 13 km from the Adriatic coast.

history

After Italy entered the war in June 1940, the fascist regime set up an internment camp ( campo di concentramento ) in Notaresco . The internees were housed in two private houses, Casa Mazzarosa and Casa Carusi . The first internees were foreign and stateless Jews who were transferred to the Ferramonti di Tarsia internment camp in 1942 to make room for Yugoslavs . With the arrival of the Yugoslavs, internment conditions tightened. The last inmates did not leave the camp until January 1944.

Attractions

The Romanesque church of San Clemente al Vomano near the Guardia Vomano fraction was built in the 12th century. The church belongs to the abbey of Benedictine .

The G. Romualdi Archaeological Museum in Notaresco has archaeological finds around the municipality from the Neolithic and Paleolithic. The remains of a Roman villa were found in the Grasciano fraction.

Viticulture

In the municipality of vines are varieties Montepulciano for the DOC - wine Montepulciano d'Abruzzo grown.
