Pietracamela is an Italian commune of 240 inhabitants and is located near Fano Adriano and Tossicia in the Italian province of Teramo . The municipality of Pietracamela is a member of the association I borghi più belli d'Italia (The Most Beautiful Places in Italy) The territory of the municipality lies within the boundaries of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park . The village is a member of the Comunità Montana Gran Sasso .

The districts (fractions) include Intermesoli and Prati di Tivo.

The neighboring municipalities are: Fano Adriano , Isola del Gran Sasso d'Italia and L'Aquila .

The municipality is located around 30 km from the capital of the province, the city of Teramo .

The community is surrounded by many mountains. The largest of these is the Gran Sasso d'Italia (2912 m), which is only 6 km away.

history

Not much is known about the history of the community. The community has been shaken by lighter earthquakes several times in the last few centuries. In most cases, no people or animals were harmed. In the last earthquake in 1950, however, some houses were badly damaged.

economy

The municipality's economy is mainly based on tourism. Thanks to the many mountains and hills in the area, the area is ideal for hiking. Due to its partially difficult to access location, the community does not have many economic contacts with neighboring towns.
