Basciano is an Italian commune with 2362 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Teramo in Abruzzo . The village is a member of the Comunità Montana del Vomano, Fino e Piomba .

geography

The districts (fractions) include Sant'Agostino, Santa Maria, Zampitto, Tomolati, Feudo da Sole, Feudo da Borea, Pantane, Sbaragli, Villa Guidotti, Vallone, Pian Mulino, Villa Frio, Villa Ginestra, Villa Colle Portone, Madonna delle Grazie, Cretone and San Rustico.

The neighboring municipalities are Castel Castagna , Colledara , Montorio al Vomano , Penna Sant'Andrea and Teramo .

The municipality is located around 15 kilometers from the provincial capital Teramo and 30 kilometers from the Adriatic coast.

history

The area of ​​the parish has been inhabited since the Bronze Age. The remains of a necropolis have been excavated on the banks of the Vomano River . It also contained ample additions in bronze, iron and knives. During further excavations, part of the former settlement was excavated. Ruins of a temple, inscriptions and ceramics were discovered.

Attractions

The monument erected to commemorate the fallen soldiers in the two world wars stands in front of the town hall in Basciano. In Basciano there are also several churches that were built in the 16th century.
