Castilenti is a municipality with 1435 inhabitants and is located near Castiglione Messer Raimondo and Montefino in the Italian province of Teramo . The village is a member of the Comunità Montana del Vomano, Fino e Piomba .

The neighboring communities are: Atri , Castiglione Messer Raimondo , Elice , Montefino and Penne .

The municipality is located around 38 kilometers from the capital of the province, the city of Teramo, and 24 kilometers from the Adriatic coast.

history

The origins of the community go back to pre-Roman times. A necropolis from pre-Christian times was excavated in the Casabianca fraction. The archaeologists found objects such as ceramics, bronze and coins. Several settlements were established in the area during the Roman Age. The ruins of a Roman villa and a cemetery have been preserved from this period. Several churches and a fortress were built in the Middle Ages.

economy

In the last few years, some industrial and handicraft businesses have sprung up in the community that employ many people. The areas concerned are varied. There are textile companies, metal, cement and furniture factories.

In addition to industrial production, agricultural production continues to be an important branch of the local economy. The agricultural area is around 1500 hectares. Wine, olives and fruits are preferred.
