Alba Adriatica is an Italian commune in the province of Teramo . It has 12,731 inhabitants and is located near Tortoreto and Martinsicuro . In 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, Alba Adriatica received the Blue Flag because of the good water quality and the very clean beach.

Alba Adriatica is one of the most famous seaside resorts on the Adriatic coast with a large sandy beach (over 3 km long).

geography

The community extends over approx. 9.6 km². The districts (fractions) include Basciani, Casasanta and Villa Fiore. The neighboring municipalities are Colonnella , Corropoli , Martinsicuro and Tortoreto . The municipality is located around 40 kilometers from the capital of the province, the city of Teramo .

history

At the beginning of the 20th century, today's Alba Adriatica belonged to the municipality of Tortoreto . In 1956 the municipality of Tortoreto broke up and changed its name to Alba Adriatica. The church has grown a lot in recent years. In 1961 the community still had 5112 inhabitants, in 1991 it was already 9365 inhabitants. By 2009 the population rose to over 12,000.

Attractions

The Torre della Vibrata in the municipality is an old coastal tower of the Kingdom of Naples. The tower was built in the 16th century. Recently the tower has been restored and used as a restaurant.

Sports

Venezuelan motorcycle racer Iván Palazzese was born on January 2, 1962, who died in an accident at the Hockenheimring in 1989 . Today a memorial in town commemorates him.

In 1973 the 9th stage of the Giro d'Italia passed through Alba Adriatica. The Belgian Patrick Sercu won the stage.

economy

The community lives very much from tourism, the main source of income for the local economy, especially in summer. Other important factors are the construction sector, handicrafts - in the textiles and clothing sectors - and commercial and inshore fishing.
