Roseto degli Abruzzi |
Roseto degli Abruzzi , mostly just Roseto , is the second largest city in the province of Teramo with 26,090 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) .
Geography and history
The place stretches mainly from north to south along the coast and partly ascends into the hills on the west side. The main artery and thoroughfare is Via Nazionale, which runs parallel to the sea. The city has a larger promenade on the Adriatic Sea , which is the central meeting point. Roseto degli Abruzzi has a sandy beach along its entire length. In the water in front of the beach, rows of rocks were piled up at regular intervals to reduce the current.
Because of the good water quality, Roseto has received the Blue Flag . The Vomano River flows into the Adriatic Sea near Roseto .
Roseto degli Abruzzi was called Rosburgo from 1877 to 1927 .
Sports
Until recently, the city had the Roseto Sharks , a first division basketball team, but after sponsorship and licensing problems, they were forced to relegate. The German national players Stephen Arigbabu and Misan Nikagbatse as well as the former US player of the Bonner Baskets Brad Traina played here.
Viticulture
In the area of the city of vines are varieties Montepulciano for the DOC - wine Montepulciano d'Abruzzo grown.
