history

Torre di Carlo V

In ancient times the place was called Castrum Truentinum or simply Truentum and was located in the central Italian landscape of Picenum at the mouth of the Tronto, then called Truentus . According to Pliny , it was originally a Liburnian settlement . Historically, the city barely appeared, but it still existed in the imperial era (this is how it is mentioned on the Tabula Peutingeriana ). In late antiquity Truentum became the seat of a bishop, to whom the titular (arch) bishopric Truentum of the Roman Catholic Church goes back.

The tower, built in 1547 under the direction of Martin de Segura as a defense tower against Turkish pirates, dates back to Spanish times. The square tower was used to monitor the nearby coastline and was part of a defensive line built by Alvarez de Toledo and Parafan de Ribeira.

Viticulture

In the municipality of vines are varieties Montepulciano for the DOC - wine Montepulciano d'Abruzzo grown.
