Silvi (also: Città di Silvi ) is an Italian municipality with 15,649 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Teramo in the Abruzzo region .

geography

The city is an agglomeration of several places, the most important of which are:

  • Silvi Alta in the foothills of Abruzzo
  • Silvi Marina on the Adriatic coast

Silvi Alta is a small town on a hill with lots of medieval elements. Particularly noteworthy is the small main church, which only becomes visible as a Romanesque church at second glance. The fortified settlement of Silvi Alta was created in order to better protect itself against attacks by pirates and other attacks that threatened the population in the Middle Ages.

Silvi Marina is located on the coast and is the former beach and fishing village that belonged to the upper town.

Today Silvi Marina is considerably larger than the medieval Silvi Alta. In the center of the village there are some stately villas that appear to have been built around the turn of the century (19th / 20th century).
