Valle Castellana (in the local dialect: i Piana ) is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 903 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Teramo in Abruzzo . The municipality is located about 20 kilometers northwest of Teramo and belongs to the Comunità montana della Laga . Valle Castellana borders directly on the provinces of Rieti ( Latium ) and Ascoli Piceno ( Marche ). A large part of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park is located in the municipality.

Sports

In 2002, Valle Castellana was the stage of the Giro d'Italia .
