Giulianova is a town in the Italian province of Teramo in the Abruzzo region .
History and geography
The old Giulianova (now called Giulianova Paese ) was on a hill. It became 264 BC. Founded under the name Castrum Novum . The place was re-founded in the 15th century by the Duke of Atri to give refuge to the refugees of the nearby Castel San Flaviano, which was completely destroyed after a battle in 1468 .
The modern part of the place (Giulianova Lido) has expanded along the Adriatic coast , between the mouths of the Salinello and Tordino rivers . The wide beach with the numerous bathing beaches and the tourist harbor is located between the mouths of the two rivers. In 2017 the city had 23,811 inhabitants.
The city is well connected with a train station, a motorway exit (A14) and several state roads.
The neighboring municipalities are Mosciano Sant'Angelo , Roseto degli Abruzzi and Tortoreto .
Attractions
In the upper part of the town ( Paese ) the beautiful cathedral S. Flaviano , a brick building from the 15th century that is rare for the Renaissance , as well as the pilgrimage church Madonna dello Splendore have been preserved. Every year in the first week of August, the Porto Salvo festival is celebrated here with a parade of fishermen.
Sports
The local football club Giulianova Calcio is active in the Lega Pro Seconda Divisione , the fourth highest Italian division, in the 2010/11 season .
