Canzano is a municipality with 1831 inhabitants and is located near Castellalto and Basciano in the Italian province of Teramo . The village is a member of the Comunità Montana del Vomano, Fino e Piomba .
geography
The districts (fractions) include Piano di Corte, Piano Vomano, San Martino, Santa Lucia, Santa Maria, Sodere and Valle Canzano.
The neighboring municipalities are Castellalto , Cermignano and Teramo .
The municipality is located about 15 kilometers from the capital of the province, the city of Teramo and 22 kilometers from the Adriatic coast .
history
The area was inhabited in Roman times and belonged to the Interamnia Pretuttiorum settlement . From that time, arrows and flint were found. A large necropolis dates from the 9th century with numerous graves containing various objects such as swords , daggers and ceramics . In the Middle Ages, several church towers and fortifications were built in the area . The tower fortification from the 15th century, which was built including a wall, survived the past centuries as a fragment.
One of the oldest buildings in Canzano is the Chiesa di San Salvatore from the 12th century. The church, built in Romanesque style , is next to a cemetery and has a chapel. In the 14th century, the Acquaviva family built a city wall around the town.
