Iván Palazzese

Iván Palazzese (born January 2, 1962 in Alba Adriatica , Italy ; † May 28, 1989 in Hockenheim , Germany ) was a Venezuelan motorcycle racer .

Career

Palazzese had his most successful time in the 1982 motorcycle world championship , when he won the Swedish and Finnish Grand Prix in the 125 cc class and ended the season in third place behind Ángel Nieto and Eugenio Lazzarini .

Palazzese died in an accident during the 1989 motorcycle world championship at the German Grand Prix at the Hockenheimring . Palazzese was driving right behind Austrian Andreas Preining when his engine failed and the motorcycle suddenly braked, causing Palazzese to collide with Preining. He fell on the track and was hit by the motorcycles of drivers Bruno Bonhuil and Fabio Barchitta , which also fell while he was trying to get up . The driver Virginio Ferrari tried in vain to revive Palazzese. He succumbed to his serious injuries on the racetrack.

A monument was erected in honor of Palazzese in his native Alba Adriatica .
