Raiano is an Italian community ( comune ) with 2707 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of L'Aquila in Abruzzo . The municipality is located about 45 kilometers southeast of L'Aquila am Aterno and belongs to the Comunità montana Peligna . Here is the Riserva naturale guidata Gole di S. Venanzio .

history

The area in which the municipality is located was already mentioned by Pliny the Elder in his Historiae naturalis . In 872 Castrum Radiani is mentioned. The 2009 earthquake damaged the church.

traffic

The former Strada Statale 5 Via Tiburtina Valeria (now a regional road) runs through the municipality from Rome to Pescara . The station is on the railway line from Terni to Sulmona .
