Santo Stefano di Sessanio is located above the Aterno valley below Campo Imperatore in Abruzzo . With an altitude of 1250 m, it is one of the highest places in Italy. The municipality belongs to the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park . Santo Stefano di Sessanio belongs to the Comunità Montana Campo Imperatore-Piana di Navelli and is a member of the association I borghi più belli d'Italia (The Most Beautiful Places in Italy) and borders directly on the province of Pescara .
