Capestrano is an Italian commune (comune) with 874 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of L'Aquila in Abruzzo .

geography

The municipality is located about 32 kilometers east-southeast of L'Aquila in the Valle del Tirino and at the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park . It belongs to the Comunità montana Campo Imperatore-Piana di Navelli and borders directly on the province of Pescara .

Culture and sights

An ancient burial ground has been excavated near Capestrano, the most important find of which is the statue of the Warrior of Capestrano . This is now in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale d'Abruzzo in Chieti .

The Strada Statale 153 della Valle del Tirino runs through the municipality from Bussi sul Tirino to Navelli .
