Pescocostanzo is an Italian commune in the province of L'Aquila . The place is part of the plateau "Altopiano delle cinque miglia" and lies within the Majella National Park . The municipality is a member of the association I borghi più belli d'Italia (The Most Beautiful Places in Italy) and borders directly on the province of Chieti .
1134 residents live here (as of December 31, 2019). The neighboring towns are Ateleta , Cansano , Palena ( CH ), Pettorano sul Gizio , Rivisondoli , Rocca Pia and Roccaraso .
The Pescocostanzo train station is the second highest on the Italian rail network with a height of 1268.82 m slm . Only the station at the Brenner Pass on the border between Italy and Austria is even higher.
Pescocostanzo has a basilica (Basilica Santa Maria del Colle), which is counted among the most beautiful in Italy. Due to its location, the place is heavily used for tourism in both summer and winter.
