Pescina is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 3949 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of L'Aquila in Abruzzo . The municipality is located about 45 kilometers southeast of L'Aquila at the Parco naturale regional Sirente-Velino . Pescina is part of the Comunità Montana Valle del Giovenco .
history
In Pescina there is the co-cathedral of the former diocese of Marsi, today: diocese of Avezzano . The bishopric of the Marsi diocese was initially in the neighboring parish of San Benedetto dei Marsi and was transferred to Pescina in 1580. With the earthquake of 1915 , which destroyed large parts of Pescina, it was moved to Avezzano in 1924 .
