Pescasseroli is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 2126 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of L'Aquila in Abruzzo . The municipality is located about 85 kilometers southeast of L'Aquila am Sangro and borders directly on the province of Frosinone ( Lazio ). Neighboring municipalities are Alvito (FR), Bisegna , Campoli Appennino (FR), Gioia dei Marsi , Lecce nei Marsi , Opi , San Donato Val di Comino (FR), Scanno , Villavallelonga .

Pescasseroli belongs to the Comunità Montana Alto Sangro Cinque Miglia and is part of the Abruzzo, Latium and Molise National Park . The national park administration is also located here.

history

The Monte delle Vitelle

The place name probably comes from the Latin pesculum ( high place ).

The municipality was a stage of the Giro d'Italia 1971 .

Economy and Transport

The former Strada statale 83 Marsicana (now a regional road) leads through the municipality from Cerchio to Scontrone . The nearby Monte delle Vitelle (1966 meters) is an area for ski tourism.
