Massa d'Albe is a municipality with 1409 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of L'Aquila in the Italian region of Abruzzo . It is located 101 km northeast of Rome and 50 km south of L'Aquila .

geography

Massa d'Albe lies above the Fuciner basin at the foot of Monte Velino (2487 ​​m). It consists of the districts of Massa, Corona, Forme and Albe. The community is a member of the Comunità montana Marsica 1 .

The neighboring towns are Avezzano , Magliano de 'Marsi , Ovindoli , Rocca di Mezzo and Scurcola Marsicana .

history

In ancient times the town of Alba Fucens was located in the municipality , which was destroyed by the Saracens in the 9th / 10th century . After that, the surviving population settled in today's town centers.

In 1915 the community was badly affected by the Avezzano earthquake . In 1944 it was bombed during World War II.
