Cansano is a municipality ( comune ) in the Abruzzo region and the province of L'Aquila in Italy and has 240 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). The municipality is located about 64 kilometers southeast of L'Aquila in the Majella National Park , belongs to the Comunità montana Peligna and borders directly on the province of Chieti .

history

In Roman antiquity, the settlement of Ocriticum was located here , from which the remains of the Temple of Jupiter have also been preserved. In 1706 there was a severe earthquake in the area.
