Tollo is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 4031 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Chieti in Abruzzo . The municipality is located about 12 kilometers east of Chieti . Tollo is part of the Unione delle Colline Teatine . It is 6 kilometers to the northeast to the Adriatic .

history

After Italy entered the war in June 1940, the fascist regime set up an internment camp ( campo di concentramento ) in a private residence in Tollo . It had a total of 15 rooms and initially accommodated 42 deported Dalmatians who were suspected of being communists . In May 1943 there were 98 Yugoslavs in Tollo who were transferred to other camps for security reasons.

traffic

The A14 autostrada runs through the municipality from Bologna to Taranto . The former railway line from Tollo to Vasto has now been abandoned.
