Bucchianico (in the local dialect: Vicchiènechë ) is an Italian community ( comune ) with 5073 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Chieti in Abruzzo . The municipality is located about 5 kilometers south of Chieti . The Alento flows through it , which should not be confused with the Alento river of the same name in southern Campania.

Strada Statale 81 Piceno Apuntina leads through the municipality to Chieti in the north and Altino in the south. At Bucchianico it meets the former Strada statale 649 di Fondo Valle Alento (today the provincial road 221).

Personalities

Kamillus von Lellis (1550–1614), Capuchin Father , saint of the Roman Catholic Church since 1746 , founder of the order of the Kamillians , was born in Bucchianico.
