Lama dei Peligni is an Italian commune ( comune ) in the province of Chieti in Abruzzo . The municipality is located about 33.5 kilometers north of Chieti , belongs to the Comunità Montana Aventino-Medio Sangro and borders directly on the province of L'Aquila . Part of the municipality is covered by the Majella National Park .
history
After Italy entered the war in June 1940, the fascist regime set up an internment camp ( campo di concentramento ) in Lama dei Peligni . It was located in a private house in the center of the village, the Casa Borelli . The first internees were from rival nations. In July 1940, out of ten internees, four were British , the remainder French and foreign Jews . These were soon replaced by other foreign Jews. Most of the internees (70) were in September 1942. One year later the camp was closed.
