Paglieta is an Italian commune with 4,208 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Chieti in the Abruzzo region .
geography
Paglieta is located about 60 kilometers southeast of the provincial capital Chieti on a hill on the right side of the Sangro River , about ten kilometers before its mouth at Torino di Sangro into the Adriatic Sea . Paglieta is an agricultural center in the Sangro Valley ( olive growing , viticulture ).
The municipality of Paglieta includes the districts ( frazioni ) Collemici, Molina, Piana del Mulino, Piano della Barca, Prato, Ranco, Sant'Egidio and Torre. The neighboring municipalities are Atessa , Casalbordino , Fossacesia , Lanciano , Mozzagrogna , Santa Maria Imbaro and Torino di Sangro .
history
The place was first mentioned at the end of the 12th century as Palletum or Castrum Palletae (from Latin palea , straw). It belonged to the Lanciano (14th century) and Pignatelli (from the 16th century) families.

economy
The largest production facility for light commercial vehicles in Europe is located between the municipalities of Atessa and Paglieta in the Val di Sangro. It covers an area of around 1,200,000 m² (120 hectares), 344,000 m² of which are built on with around 5,200 jobs. The Sevel plant (Società Europea Veicoli Leggeri) was founded in 1981 as a joint venture between Fiat and PSA Peugeot Citroën and is designed for the entire production cycle.
