European basketball championship

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European basketball championship (officially: EuroBasket ) has been organized by FIBA Europe , the European basketball federation, every two years since 1935 in odd years (for women up to 1980 in even years).

In these tournaments, the national basketball teams play the European champions . In addition to the competitions for men and women also European Youth Championships will be (in the age groups U20 , U18 and U16) played.

From 1935 to 1955 the World Basketball Federation was the organizer. Until 1961, Egypt and Lebanon were also eligible to participate in the absence of a continental basketball organization. For political reasons, Israel belongs to the European association.
