European basketball championship 1995 / qualification

This page describes the qualification for the 1995 European Basketball Championship for men. A total of 34 national teams took part in the qualification for the 12 free places.

A total of 14 teams took part in the 1995 EuroBasket , which qualified for the tournament in different ways:

• Germany was automatically qualified as defending champion.

• Greece was automatically set as the host.

• 10 participants were determined over two qualification rounds.

• 2 further participants were determined in an additional qualifying round. This was set after the exclusion of Yugoslavia was lifted.

First qualifying round

The first qualifying round was played in 3 groups (A to C). The national teams of the weaker nations took part in this. The group first and second in these groups qualified for the next qualifying round.

Second qualifying round (Semi Final Round)

In the second qualifying round, five groups (A to E) were played. 14 teams that were seeded for this round took part, as well as 6 teams that were successful in the first qualifying round. The 14 teams are the participants in the European Championship finals in 1993 minus the two teams from Greece and Germany who have already qualified directly. The group first and second in these groups qualified for the final round. The group third were later given the opportunity to qualify for the final round via an additional qualifying round.

Additional Qualifying Round

2 further participants were determined in an additional qualifying round. This was set after the exclusion of Yugoslavia was lifted. In addition to the team from Yugoslavia, the third group of the second qualifying round took part in this. Belgium did not participate.
