The Portuguese national basketball team (Port. Seleção Portuguesa de Basquetebol ) represents Portugal at international or friendly basketball matches . Her greatest success so far was reaching the intermediate round at the 2007 European Championship . Before that, she had only participated in a European championship once, in 1951 .

The Portuguese basketball association Federação Portuguesa de Basquetebol oversees the selection.

Some of Portugal's best basketball players come from the former colony of Cape Verde , including perhaps the best player in Portuguese history, Carlos Lisboa , as well as current players such as Elvis Évora and former Bundesliga professional Carlos Andrade .
