The Serbian-Montenegrin national basketball team (2003 to 2006) and the national basketball team of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (1993 to 2003) were the basketball selection of the subsequent confederation of the 1992 defunct Yugoslavia from 1993/94 to 2006 . When in May 2006 Montenegro officially broke away from the Confederation of Serbia and Montenegro through a declaration of independence following an independence referendum , the Serbian national basketball team became the official successor to the Serbian-Montenegrin national basketball team.
